Music

Let every instrument be tuned for praise! Let all rejoice who have a voice to raise! And may God give us faith to sing always: Alleluia!" —Fred Pratt Green, Hymn 420 from The Hymnal 1982

Music is an integral part of the worship life at Saint Matthias. Our music is closely integrated with the Liturgy and the appointed texts of the day as well as each season of the Liturgical Year. Hymns, anthems and service music are chosen to highlight and emphasize “themes" and “threads" found in the readings as well as to reflect the season, such as Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter.

The Parish Choir strives to present sacred literature at a high level of quality for each service of worship. Our mission and philosophy is simple: By presenting music of substance and quality with diligent preparation, we seek to inspire and empower the people who hear it so that they may go forth into the world to do the ministry of the church.

Singing in the Parish Choir

The Parish Choir is open to all persons who wish to be a part of this parish's music ministry.   As a ministry of Saint Matthias, like all ministries of the church, it is important for each participant to attend rehearsals and services regularly. The ability to read music is not required; however it would be an invaluable asset as the choir sings a great deal of music throughout the year, and it is imperative for everyone to be able to pick up the details of preparation quickly and thoroughly.
